
I admit it. I don't get this one. Yes, I'm sure I'd have gotten more out of this very brief novel if I were more familiar with Ted Hughes's poetry, but frankly, if there's a prerequisite requirement for a stand-alone novel, it's not going to be for me.
It's word play, poetry blending with prose, silliness blending with poignancy. But overall, for me, it was just an unsatisfying reading experience.
