The Library Journal review of this book claims that if I "delighted in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society ... [I] will be equally captivated by this novel." I did, and I was. It's a modern-day Silas Marner, and as with the Eliot, I also loved this version.

As a former bookstore owner myself, and still feeling the financial pain of that enterprise more than a decade later, this book still makes me nostalgic for my shop. Some of my best memories from that time of my life came--as they do in this novel--from the connections to people I formed in those years. The owners of the coffee shop next door (both sets), the customers... that idea of "just connect" really hit home with me while reading this.

And I'm also really thrilled that it's published by Algonquin--a press located just eight miles from my home.

from the publisher: A.J. Fikry's life is not all what he expected it to be. He lives alone, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. But when a mysterious package appears at the bookstore, its unexpected arrival gives Fikry the chance to make his life over--and see everything anew.
